Biography & Bookshelf
Like most authors, M. P. Halliday began her career in childhood, exercising her creativity throughout grade school and into college, where she studied Creative Writing at Southern Utah University. Life promptly took a U-turn, and she found herself straggling through young adulthood, compassless, making one tough decision after another. She learned to pivot, as all young people must do, though this didn't come without strife. Uncertain of what her purpose was, she tried climbing all the different ladders in front of her: real estate (yuck), medical services (ugh), non-profit work (sigh), and social work (even bigger sigh). None of these callings really, well, called to her.
Was her degree in Social Work from the University of Utah just a waste? she thought. Not quite. All education is valuable, whether one "uses" it or not. What's important is that the author finally found her way back to her first love: books. She now works with libraries to catalog their collections, helping patrons the world over discover their own journies through subject headings and call numbers. She also writes, adding her own books to these collections of readers' dreams.
Beloved titles on her bookshelf include the collected works of Edgar Allan Poe; Jane Eyre (Charlotte Bronte); Dracula (Bram Stoker); Wither (Lauren DeStefano); Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Laini Taylor); The Forest of Hands and Teeth (Carrie Ryan); Wintersong (S. Jae-Jones); A Great and Terrible Beauty (Libba Bray); Shadow and Bone (Leigh Bardugo); The Madman’s Daughter (Megan Shepherd); Blood and Salt (Kim Liggett); Girl, Serpent, Thorn (Melissa Bashardoust); and Blood Red Road (Moira Young). Many of these books begin trilogies or series and may be found in the YA section at your local library.
